NZ timber stocks and supply

NZ Timbers - we have offered a wide array of NZ species for many years, but over time the range of viable (commercially viable) timbers grown in NZ has diminished. This has seen the demand and supply of Indigenous species all but disappear. The costs and processing options for these indigenous species is limited and better timbers and supplied from smart supply chains with great QC means NZ Indigenous species are not as attractive (due to supply problems, quality issues, and more importantly costs). Exotic species options too have been eroded due to concentration of sawmills to process only Radiata Pine and less and less on other species like Macrocarpa, Larch, the Eucalypts, and others. At Timspec we have also had to move with the times and we are focusing more and more on imported timbers.

We do carry an extensive selection of untreated and treated (H3.2) Radiata Clears, as well as some Saligna and Pilularis .

Supply dynamics show tight Cedar supplies, US hardwoods in general okay, Kwila decking very interesting. Local timbers we see Radiata clears as being good, but Rimu very poor.
