Australian Hardwoods

Australian Hardwoods – no new news from Victoria other than the ASH sawmill is being sold to a Victorian State Government  ownership and that it will then be sold to a new private entity although a significant reduction in volumes is going to  be felt. The change will impact grades and sizes yielded as well which will change the markets and profitability. In may I did visit our Jarrah sawmill and we are increasing the volumes of Jarrah we offer. The supply of Jarrah remains the same and its steady as she goes. Other Australian hardwoods we see special jobs come and go but nothing noteworthy.

Australian Oak – this is mainly Victorian Ash for us these days and we like many are very worried about the imminent reduced volumes from ASH. This change will mean higher prices and reduced availability. We have good stocks at present and this is unlikely to change in the next 6 months. We do handle some Tasmanian Oak although limited to T&G in the main.

Jarrah -  good stocks of sawn product and plenty coming. We now stock some Dressed Jarrah for outdoor  furniture & Landscaping  customers. The dressed sizes are  65x30, 65x40 and 140x32..

Tasmanian Blackwood –some nice stock on hand …

Australian Hardwoods hard to beat. Thank goodness we still beat them in Rugby

The NZ Government like Tasmanian Blackwood obviously

/imagesdb/Issue/8e64db45-79ee-4e03-8970-65aa52a393c8.jpgSupply Overview
Supply dynamics show tight Cedar supplies, US hardwoods in general okay, Kwila decking very interesting. Local timbers we see Radiata clears as being good, but Rimu very poor.
An election, banking issues and shortage of skilled labour makes for interesting times.
